Hazardous materials transportation/chemical emergency response training programs are conducted on the NLC campus and regionally. For complete information, including program training schedules and registration, visit the

The training, eligible for three academic credits from NLC, addresses OSHA and DOT required procedures, different levels of response, and worker protection in case of a hazardous materials emergency or release.  Training includes advanced classroom instruction, intensive hands-on drills, a simulated hazmat response in full safety gear, incident command, WMD awareness and security training, as well as all components to complete the OSHA 10-Hour Outreach Course.

The program is funded through the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) and additional support from the North American Railway Foundation (NARF). Since 1990, hazardous materials training has been provided to nearly 20,000 rail workers from eight rail unions cooperating in the training program:
