Assess Your Computer Skills

To be most successful in an online course, some computer skills are necessary. Answer the following questions to determine if your computer skills are sufficient for online coursework. When you have answered all the questions, click the Score button at the bottom of the page.

Can you use a web browser, such as Microsoft Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator or Safari?

Can you use a word processing program, such as Microsoft Word or WordPerfect?

Are you comfortable using more than one program at a time or viewing web pages in multiple windows?

Can you send e-mail, including attachments?

Can you cut/copy and paste text?

Can you download and install a computer program or plug-in?

Are you comfortable learning a new computer program?

Total score > 6: Your computer skills are probably adequate for online coursework.  You may still wish to read about the importance of these skills.

Total score < 7: You may experience difficulty with online course work. Read about the importance of these skills and how you may be able to improve them before you make a final decision.
