NLC’s Online Degree Program Bachelor of Technical/Professional Studies

The National Labor College (NLC) is proud to announce a 100% nonresidential college degree, the Bachelor of Technical/Professional Studies (BTPS). The NLC is the only accredited college in the world that is solely devoted to educating union members, leaders, activists and staff. he BTPS degree program provides union members who have participated in challenging apprenticeships and training programs with online access to the courses need to earn a college degree.

Areas of Specialization

The BTPS degree program offers five specializations within labor studies:

  • Leadership
  • Labor Studies
  • Instructional Technology and Computer Skills (2 tracks)
  • Music and Arts (2 tracks)
  • Occupational Safety and Health

The BTPS program brings these opportunities to union members who want a completely online education.

BTPS courses run on the same schedule as the NLC Bachelor of Arts program.

Is Distance Education for You?

An online course may be an option for you if you are:

  • A learner who finds it difficult to commute to a classroom location
  • A learner who has basic computer skills and enjoys using the Internet
  • A learner who is highly motivated to pursue his/her education

Union members may be admitted to the BTPS program if they:

  • have a high school diploma or equivalency, AND
  • have completed a union apprenticeship training program, which has been assessed to the equivalent of a minimum of 45 semester hours, OR
  • have completed an associate’s degree program, which has been assessed to the equivalent of a minimum of 45 semester hours.

Admission is determined without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age, status as a qualified person with a disability or handicap, marital status, or sexual orientation.

The NLC will accept up to 60 semester credits of independently assessed apprenticeship training.

In addition to credit earned through an apprenticeship program or associate’s degree program, an integral component of the BTPS degree program is the Service Internship Courses.  NLC works with students and unions to develop internships that will maximize both the academic and professional benefits to students.
