Randolph and AFL President William Green at the 1950 Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters convention in Chicago.
Due to Green's efforts in 1929, the AFL chartered nine BSCP locals as directly affiliated federal unions. On June 30, at Abyssinian Baptist Church, Green presented the New York local with its charter and welcomed the BSCP into the house of labor. BSCP served as the AFL's ambassador among blacks seeking affiliation with organized labor. Photograph credit: Chicago Historical Society; ICHi-15882. |
