March on Washington participants, 1963.
Approximately 50,000 of the 250,000 marchers who gathered in Washington on August 28, 1963 represented organized labor. The AFL-CIO did not endorse the march, but supported march goals of jobs and freedom and acknowledged the right of its affiliates to participate.
