LABOR COLLEGE TO HOST FORUM FOCUSING ON PATRIOTISM, DEMOCRACY AND THE FUTURE OF THE LABOR MOVEMENT

Silver Spring, Md.-The NLC The National Labor College (NLC) will be the site of an issues forum convened by NLC faculty and Students and co-sponsored by the Milton S. Eisenhower Foundation, to examine the future and strategies of a progressive agenda and its impact on the American Labor Movement.   A panel discussion, based upon the Eisenhower Foundation’s new book, Patriotism, Democracy and Common Sense: Restoring America’s Promise at Home and Abroad, will initiate the dialogue among the Forum’s participants, the audience and other guests. Panelists include three of the books contributors: Eisenhower President and noted author, Dr. Alan Curtis, who edited the volume;   distinguished economist, labor analyst and co-founder of the Economic Policy Institute, author Jeff Faux, and Dr.Yvonne Scruggs-Leftwich, progressive commentator, author, and NLC faculty member.  NLC’s President, Dr. Susan Schurman will moderate the Forum.

The NLC is located on a beautiful 47-acre campus in Silver Spring, Maryland. Formerly known as the George Meany Center, the NLC became a degree granting college in 1997, and in 2004, the college earned accreditation from the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, an independent, regional accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. The NLC offers Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Technical/Professional Studies. Graduate programs are also offered at the campus in partnership with local universities.
